Africa Melane
Master of Ceremonies
Africa Melane’s wide-ranging interests and relentless curiosity stand him in good stead to host our Annual Conference.
An accountant by training, Africa Melane has spent a decade in broadcasting, both on and off-air. Every weekday morning, from 04h00 – 06h00, Africa Melane unpacks the news of the day on both Cape Talk and 702, in the “Early Breakfast” show. He sets the scene for the early risers and addresses the issues that matter and affect our lives from the previous day’s news stories. In this role, he has interviewed leading personalities, business leaders, politicians, thought leaders, community activists and religious leaders from both South Africa and abroad. His real joy is derived from engaging with fellow South Africans on matters that are important to them.
Africa studied accounting and auditing and went on to work at a leading business assurance firm. He also taught a professional development course to first year students at the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Cape Town, before turning to a career in broadcasting.
He has been the Master of Ceremonies for events and functions for both the public and private sector. Business conferences and meetings, awards ceremonies and gala dinners form the core of his client base, with repeat business for clients such as AfricaCom, PwC’s Education Conference, Cape Town International Jazz Festival, Smart Procurement World and many more.
He enjoys MC’ing corporate and NGO events and is able to engage with his audiences, while ensuring that the event is on time and runs smoothly. As a conference facilitator, Africa has extensive experience as a facilitator presenting workshops for business on budgeting and business planning and for the health sector on HIV/Aids, diversity training and professional development. He has also hosted events for Provincial Government, Local Government, Wesgro and other agencies of government.
Africa is also a board member of Cape Town Opera, the continent’s premier opera company. He chairs the panel of judges for the Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards, South Africa’s oldest and most prestigious theatre awards, which reward excellence in professional theatrical productions staged and performed in Cape Town.
