Mr Nkambule is Executive Director: Information Technology and Chief Information Officer at North-West University, bringing extensive experience in ICT leadership, strategy, governance, enterprise architecture and cybersecurity across the higher-education and telecommunications sectors.
Prior to joining North-West University, he served as Director: ICT Services at Tshwane University of Technology, where his responsibilities included ICT strategy, architecture and cybersecurity operations. His earlier career includes senior information technology roles at the University of South Africa and Telkom SA, giving him broad experience in managing complex technology environments and aligning ICT capabilities with organisational strategy.
Mafika has a particular professional and research interest in cybersecurity within higher education. His academic work has explored the integration of enterprise architecture into cybersecurity risk management and the development of effective cybersecurity cultures and governance frameworks for African higher-education institutions.
He has co-authored research addressing cybersecurity risk, institutional resilience and the respective roles of leadership, governance structures, ICT professionals, staff and students in protecting university information environments. He has also contributed to sector discussions on collaboration, digital transformation and technology strategy within higher education.
His combination of executive ICT leadership and applied cybersecurity research provides a practical perspective on the strategic technology challenges facing universities.
